Another First – Dewar’s Scratched Cask
It is a day of firsts as following on the heels of Crown Royal offering their first-ever blended rye whiskey, comes news that another whiskey blend giant – Dewar’s – will be offering a bourbon-style blend called Scratched Cask, Dewar’s Scratched Cask follows in the bourbon tradition of scratching a charred oak layer in a cask to induce more and/or different flavors to emerge from the finished product. In the case of Dewar’s Scratched Cask, the whiskey is a blend of 40 single malt and single grain whiskies that have aged a minimum of four years before they are transferred to American oak casks which have been heavily charred, then scratched at the char layer to produce vanilla and oak notes.
Dewar’s Scratched Cask whiskey is available – albeit as a limited release – for $26 per 750ml bottle.
