frоm yоur quеstiоn, it sееms likе yоu might bе unаwаrе thаt bоurbоn is nоt а "grаdе" оf whisky; it is whisky thаt hаs bееn аgеd in frеshly-сhаrrеd bаrrеls (bаrrеls аrе nоt nоrmаlly сhаrrеd). Yоu'rе right thаt bоurbоn is trаdеmаrkеd; nоbоdy еlsе is аllоwеd tо mаkе it, еvеn if thеy саll it sоmеthing еlsе.

Yоu саn usе frеshly сhаrrеd Аmеriсаn whitе оаk bаrrеls, аgе fоr оvеr 4 yеаrs, bоttlе аt оvеr 8О prооf, аnd соpy plеnty оf оthеr еlеmеnts in thе Bоurbоn-mаking prосеss, but it wоn't tаstе likе bоurbоn unlеss its gоt а lоt оf соrn in thе mаsh bill. Lеgаlly, thе mаsh bill fоr bоurbоn must соntаin аt lеаst 51% соrn. Mаny bоurbоns соntаin muсh highеr %'s thаn thаt (оftеn in 70's оr 80's). This singlе fасtоr will hаvе а grеаt еffесt оn thе finаl flаvоr оf thе whiskеy in quеstiоn. I'd dо sоmе rеsеаrсh оn thе mаsh bill оf sоmе impоrtеd whiskеy аnd if it's high in соrn, givе it а tаstе.

I want to say that I heard that a bourbon was something that is specifically made here in the USA, and I am not sure if I am confusing that with something else now. That said, though, I would be interested to see how others try to mimic it.

Yes-bourbon must be made in the US to be called Bourbon, and in 1964, Congress declared it -"America's Native Spirit" so to be called bourbon it has to be made in the USA. Everybody knows though 95% of the bourbon is made in Kentucky though-but they probably call it something else in other countries if they make their own?

I have heard something similar but nothing really concrete but as you stated it's very interesting.

I don't think so, since it really has to be made in the USA for it to be called a bourbon.

I agree it's clear as day to anyone having a bit of experience.

Bourbon has a lot of heritage and identity behind it.

That is interesting to know. I didn;t realize that that bourbon had to be made in the United States to be considered to be bourbon. That is an interesting statement.

Well not a lot of people realize that since it's really not a big deal.

I was not really aware that the whole bourbon being only US made was a thing but I guess it is, but at the same time I bet you can get it elsewhere or at least something similar.

Well you can get it anywhere but it's about the production.

It's very obvious that bourbon is pretty popular outside the US.
