I think what I have learned from this forum is to drink Irish whiskey. It seems to be more well thought of then American whisky. It should be interesting to try it.

I'm not an expert either, but what i have noticed is that Irish whiskey is the best to start with.

The choice of one's favorite brand depends on the beholder. What may feel bad to me may feel nice to someone else.

What's wrong with American whiskey ? Tastes fine to me. I've never tried Irish but I can't imagine it will be that much better.

@FuZyOn brought it up first, and he was right. As noted though, not just any bar. The average corner bar doesn't typically have a knowledgeable bartender. In the nicer places, good restaurants, nice lounges, the mixologists are more likely to offer good insight.

In some cases, they may have even had some education concerning the products they serve.

My first taste of whiskey was Jameson because it is one of the cheapest whiskey on my country. I love the taste of Jameson. Definitely recommended for starters.

You always hear that Irish whiskey is the smoothest of whiskies because it's triple distilled and Scotch is double distilled, but maybe they have two reasons ? Scotch is made with smokey peat and Irish whiskey is unpeated. So you are less likely to have a hangover from Irish Whiskey for this reason,as well as its triple distilled.

According to me... Irish whiskeys are the best for beginners. That is if you want to start with the the spirits category. They are the best due to their fruity and baking spice flecked flavours. It can also be mixed with Irish coffee.
