There are two obvious champs here:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Coca-cola and Redbull. Oh, and ice... :p

I'd also like to get into mixing juices and tonic maybe... Not complicated cocktails. Simple stuff.

So how do you take your poison?
    Please share your best recipes.

    Cheers

I don't think a good whiskey needs to be mixed with anything. Coke of course works and can make pretty much any whiskey taste ok, but as Lemmy so well said: "I had to stop doing that because apparently coke is not good for my health."

I prefer my whiskey straight up and on the rocks. I don't like mixing it anything.

That sure went well for him :p

I'm trying to dilute alcohol here. Not add more :p
Sure like the name of the cocktail though... Whisky Mac.

When I see this thread the first thing that I remembered was definitely: coca-cola. I'm a little bored of it by now, but it's for sure a great combination

I prefer it straight up with some ice, I don't drink scotch that often so I like to savor the taste. I do add some water some times if it's a bit harsh.

Red-Bull is probably the best drink to mix with whisky, it's got a distinct taste that combines well with it.

I have really only drank whiskey as a "whiskey sour". You don't want to use a generic mix because it gives it a grainy, sugar-loaded flavor. I think that the best sour mix is made with lemon juice and a LITTLE bit of sugar. I actually don't like to mix the sugar in the drink; I like to sugar the rim. Or instead of sugar, adding a few cherries to the mix.

Well whiskey does not usually need mixing however, I would mix it with Pepsi or coco cola

I've mainly done whiskey unmixed in recent memory. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, one of my family members could make one check of a Manhattan. So there is that version too. :)

I have never had a whiskey sour but it does sound really good. I will have to give it a try sometime. I like the idea of adding cherries to the mix.

I've never been a fan of cola, definitely not energy drinks. (I've never seen anyone mix whiskey with Redbull.)

My go to has always just been ginger ale. Get a bottle of the cheapest stuff that you can find (Old Crow is a personal favorite) and dilute with ginger ale, that's what we always did.

You can't go wrong with ginger ale for a mix, it is a much better choice then coke. I have had whiskey with ginger ale in the past and it was quite good.

I was getting groceries today, saw a can of ginger ale and remembered this thread. I'll give it a try tonight!

I can't believe that you've never had it with ginger ale, I thought that was very common.

I'm a fan of American honey and Jamaican ginger beer. The Jamaican ginger runs a few extra bucks, but it packs a kick at the end.

    Or was that the whisky...

Cola is the most popular one, I suppose. Wherever I go, I see this option. And I actually enjoy it. However, sometimes the price is too high. So, buy your own stuff and enjoy your privacy and comfort, as well as the taste.

that does seem to be the most common where I come from, that or with a splash of water.
