Metallica Gets Blackened
Heavy metal music band Metallica has become the latest to join the musician-sponsored whiskey fray with the release of their ‘Blackened’ American whiskey [which is named after the opening track on their ‘…And Justice For All’ album].
Metallica’s “Blackened” is a blend of bourbon, rye, and other American whiskies, aged in ex-brandy casks but which have been matured via a unique collaborative process between Metallica and sound speaker company Meyer Sound. The patent-pending process has been called dubbed ‘Black Noise’ that amplifies low hertz sound waves through special Meyer Sound speakers that are hardwired in the maturation warehouses for the whisky, playing bass-enhanced playlists featuring the band’s music. The vibrations from the music are claimed to enhance the contact between the brandy wood and the spirit, which then – in theory – constantly shifts the liquid around the wood and therefore gives the whiskey more flavors.
Every batch of Blackened that is sold will also come with an accompanying playlist, available on Spotify and Apple Music.
The first batch of 5000 bottles – labeled as ‘081’ in recognition of the year the band first formed – will be made available exclusively in the USA for $43 per bottle specifically in cities where the band is touring.
