Rogue Ale Rolls Out Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout
Oregon-based Rogue Ales & Spirits has announced the release of 2016 Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout, its first-ever beer aged in barrels made at Rogue’s cooperage. Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is brewed with ingredients grown at Rogue Farms and “ocean-aged” in whiskey-soaked handmade barrels.
Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout uses Oregon White Oak barrels which are then soaked Rogue’s Dead Guy Whiskey [itself distilled from Rogue’s Dead Guy Ale]. After a year of aging, eight types of grains, including oats and Rogue Farms barley are brewed with Rogue Farms hops, brown sugar, sweet dark cherries, vanilla and chocolate. After six months, the brew is ready to hit the bottle.
Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is black with ruby hues and will be available in one-liter bottles – albeit “in extremely limited quantities” – beginning on July 15, 2016.
