A Whiskycritic Review – Maker’s Mark Bourbon

Maker’s Mark Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey [45% alcohol content - 90 proof] is one of the most popular Bourbons in the land – not only in the United States of America but in the world. So there is an underlying notion that, when embarking on a taste test of Maker’s Mark, it is almost akin to taking the school’s most popular girls to the prom. If not the most popular, then, at the very least, you are taking a varsity cheerleader to the prom – and therein lies the problem. There are high expectations that come with Maker’s Mark.

At first, the Bourbon comes at you heavy and harsh, but then after a feeling out period, it tends to “smoothen out” [in the words of one tester] a bit and it gets better with ice [though this is subjective, naturally]. The Bourbon gave us the same essence that a cacti might have in the desert air – somewhat bitey and the nostril hairs might take some offense – but it comes with the territory and is what makes the Bourbon the winner of the popularity contest that it is.

So there is nothing bad to say about Maker’s Mark, but there also isn’t any particular element that makes it stand out. It is nice and all to take the cheerleader to the prom, but in the end, it’s just another fancy dance that you may or may not remember. It’s probably best to pull out the Maker’s Mark when you want to impress your cousin Andy when he visits.

WhiskyCritic Grade – 75/100.

Oh Maker's Mark, I loved to drink their whisky when I was away in the US. I would rate them as 9/10, the beverages were pretty good! :D

Surprisingly, I've never heard of Maker's Mark. I'm not sure why either...especially if it's that popular. I live in California, so that might have something to do with me not recognizing it. It's definitely not a popular brand in my neck of the woods.

I have never heard of it either so I am thinking it is not available in my part of the world either. I haven't really looked for it.though. The next time I'm at the liquor store I am going to check and see if it is available here.

I love their cute little bottles. I think it is a good whisky but there are probably better ones out there. I saw a program on TV one time about how they made their whisky and sealed their bottles, it was pretty interesting.

I'm glad that I'm not alone. I thought I might be blind and just have never noticed it. What part of the world are you from? We might just live in a similar area. I'm also going to see if they carry it at my local store. I think Bevmo would be my best bet.

I am in Eastern Canada. I am going to the liquor store this evening after work. Going to have a look.

Let me know if you have any luck! I'm from California and I didn't find it at my local grocery store. I'm really thinking my best bet is Bevmo.

My friends went to visit the Makers Mark factory and they got some whisky and took a tour. They said that they loved it and posted pictures on Facebook. I was so jealous of them for doing that.

That is really cool sillylucy. That sounds like a lot of fun. Lexi I didn't have any luck finding it around here. It wasn't anywhere on the shelves but I never asked if they had it or ever had it. It wasn't labeled on the shelve so I know that they don't have it in their store.

That sounds awesome! I would love to go through a Whiskey Tour. It'd be interesting to see the process that goes into making Whiskey.
