Ipa's I Haven't Heard Of?

Summertime

Hey all,
I'm looking to try some new IPA's - I'm a big fan of Smuttynose , Dogfishhead, and Arrogant Bastard, but I need some new stuff to try out. Any suggestions?

I am not a huge IPA fan, not due do lack of trying! But, I've heard that Ballast Point makes a great brew. It's called Sculpin IPA. I'm not sure if it's still around or if it's sold in your area. One of my best friends had it while traveling and raved about it.

I investigated and the closest place I could find is a little beer store about 25 miles away from me, so I'll definitely give it a try if I find myself out there. Thanks for the suggestion!

You are welcome! Now, what is an IPA that you would suggest to someone who is trying to adjust their taste buds? There are so many good brews around here that I'd love to drink, but I can't get myself past that strong hop flavor.

If you're trying to get into a headier brew, I'd recommend something like a Sam Adam's to wet the palate - followed by a Green Goose IPA. It isn't too hoppy, but it's strong enough that you'll remember it.

I recommend trying to get your hands on Pernicious by Wicked Weed Brewery, out of Asheville, NC. It's one of the best IPAs that I've ever tried - it's also the beer that my customers are always happy with. Pernicious is so perfectly balanced!

Pernicious IPA you say? I've actually had this brew before, when I was down in Charlotte visiting relatives. It was quite tasty, with some really pleasant piney tastes, and it really is well balanced. How'd you find out about it?

I live in NC and have actually been to the brewery a few times, not only is the beer really great - but the food is incredible. Another thing to visit in Asheville is the Sierra Nevada beer castle. Those two breweries are good enough reason to make a trip up. We've also just started carrying Pernicious on draft at the bar that I'm working at - it's a huge hit with IPA fas.

The India Pale Ales(IPA)are very hoppy pale ales and were first brewed in England, and some good ones are Harpoon IPA,Red Hook IPA,and Goose Island IPA. The hops in the beer affect the flavor and aroma, also bitterness- IPAs often smell like citrus, pine or flowers as well.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA is said to be a very balanced beer for those who don't count IPAs as their favorites. It's a popular brewer with good distribution, making it a bit more accessible than some others.

I'd also recommend Bell's Two Hearted Ale. It's more malty. Some of us aren't as into hoppiness as others, but we do have options.

They really do seem to be popping up more and more these days. I do not have an issue with that of course, because I do enjoy them, but it is hard to remember them all.
