Beer V/s Wine

We all know that both beer and wine hold medicinal values as well. But which is better among the two from the point of health benefits?

I think wine is the better one out of the two. It helps keep your blood healthy from what I've read. Not too sure about the beer effects.

They both have some great benefits when you drink in moderation, and beer does contain some of the B-vitamins that are very brain-boosting as far as these nutrients go. Also beer may be very good for your bone density as well, being that is contains silicon.

The polyphenols nutrients in red wine are known for their antioxidant activities, and also in moderation, wine can lower your blood pressure.

Wow this a great and detailed explanation. I appreciate your knowledge. I will always keep all these points in mind.

Every day is a school day as they say! While I was aware of the research done that said that wine was beneficial for our health in small doses, I have to admit that I hadn't heard that beer could also be good for us as well.

To be honest I'm not sure that's a good thing now that I do know, because I can fool myself into just having one more before I go home and pretending it's for medicinal purposes!

The main difference for me is that I've never heard of anyone prescribing beer for medicinal purposes. I have heard of older people being encouraged to have a small glass of wine with dinner to help thin their blood.

My grandmother was advised by her doctor to have a little glass of red wine each evening. When teased about drinking, after having never been a drinker, she said, "I don't drink. That's my medicine."

You are right.. But doctors do prescribe beer to some patients with kidney stones. It is said that beer helps to dissolve them faster, though there are still no proven studies for this till date.

At the end of the day I think that we have to just accept that alcohol in general, isn't good for us. Now I know that some doctors and health experts say that a small glass of wine, or a specific amount of warm whisky can have positive effects, for most of us we aren't going to just have that small amount that they are saying.

Who is going to open a bottle of wine and have one small glass a week out of it? I know I wouldn't and once the bottle is open then I tend to finish it off, so that one small glass for medicinal purposes turns into a full bottle...and that isn't good for you no matter what some people might say.

As for me I consume more beer than wine. I may not be able to say which is better or of more medicinal value to the body. I am just okay with my occasional take of beer especially Stout by Guinness which is good for the body if taken in moderation.

I'm the same, and it's very rare that I will have a glass of wine. Maybe if we go out for a meal or it's a special occasion, a birthday party but more often than not beer or lager is what I drink the most.

I do like a glass of wine every now and again, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what's a good one or a bad one to be honest. I'll leave that to the connoisseurs!

You say it well and I agree that wine looks good only on special occasions. Walking around every time with a glass of wine is really something that most of us don't like to do.

I am not a big wine person but I do recognize that it has its times and places to be drank. I save it more for the churh related affairs.

I think most Churches discourage the consumption of alcohol. That would mean alcoholic wine won't be entertain in those Churches. I am still thinking moderation and not getting drunk unnecessarily is the main thing to look at.

Even i'm not in the favor of unnecessary over drinking. For me drinking once in a while and that too within limits is something that is acceptable. Neither do I like drinking on daily basis nor I can stand getting out of control post drinking.

Every one has his own limits and should be aware when and where to stop.
