Bourbon Barrel Aged Beer

I didn't think I would like this very much. I was afraid the bourbon taste would overpower the beer, but we have tried a couple different options lately that were quite nice.

My favorite was the Boulevard, Smokestack Series, Bourbon Barrel Quad. It's (obviously) aged in bourbon barrels but with cherries. It had a nice subtle flavor and the cherries kind of counteracted the 'boozy" taste you might expect.

Sadly, it's a limited release, and I haven't been able to find another bottle.

Its sounds interesting but also I see that sometimes people make their own beer cocktails with beer and bourbon mixed together. They add a few other things to it as well besides the beer and bourbon- you add bourbon, lemon juice, honey, and some bitters to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well until the honey is dissolved and then they pour it over the beer and garnish with a lemon twist.

There is a big difference between mixing beer with bourbon and drinking beer aged in bourbon barrels. I guess it just goes by preference. In the latter, it's intended to subtly enhance the flavor, which it does quite nicely, if done right.

KBS is another great example of that. It tastes fantastic.

If I mixed actual bourbon with beer, I think all I would taste is the bourbon.
