Cheapest Whisky

What is the cheapest bottle of whisky you ever bought? How did it taste?
I remember buying a 5$ bottle when I was young and broke, it tasted like rubber mixed with grass. Oh well.. :D
 
I bought a bottle of Whisky from my local grocery store a few years ago. It was the most vile whisky I have ever tasted. I had a thought in my head that we were using the whisky for a large amount of mixed beverages, so the flavor wouldn't be too effected. It was absolutely terrible. I was young and ignorant to how much the flavors played into anything. I think I paid around $10 for the bottle and it tasted like rubbing alcohol.

I'm allergic to different fruit like pears and prune. I bought a bottle of cheap whisky that supposedly had the flavor of apricot thinking that if I don't like it I only wasted like 7$, but it turns out it was pear-flavored. I only realized when my face was swollen after I drank at least a quarter of the bottle. That was fun...
 
The cheapest bottle of whiskey that I bought was $6. That was the first and last time I did that. When I had it my stomach felt raw and I could feel it get to my head after the first gulp.
 
I never bought a large cheap bottle of Whiskey, but I have had the smaller off brand types that are about 4 bucks a piece. I wouldn't advise drinking it straight, but it is Ok if it is mixed with something. This is the only way I would drink it really.

Was it mislabeled or only had a picture or something?

It was mislabeled, but mix-ups like this happen with every small, cheap companies like the one I bought whisky from. That's why I don't trust them anymore.
 
Tell me about it. I bought a bottle of the cheap stuff one day from our local supermarket, and I regretted it as soon as I took my first sip. It was horrible. I tried mixing it with coke but that didn't help much.

That sound just horrible. It is a good thing that you noticed quickly and got yourself to the hospital when you did.

Yeah, it wouldn't have been a near-death situation but if I didn't get to the hospital quickly it would've sucked. At least I got a "funny" story to tell! :D
 
As I said, I think cheap whiskey has it's place, but don't plan on drinking it for taste. A small amount to use as a mixer I think is the way to use this. I think that many people will find the whiskey they can afford and use that regardless of cost.
 
I won't ever buy cheap whiskey it has a horrible ashy taste to it. I think once you have had a good glass of whiskey anything else just falls short in comparison. Some cheaper drinks can be surprisingly good but whiskey just is not one of them in my opinion.
 
Oh man, I once bought a bottle of the Jewel Osco brand whiskey. You know the one that comes in a clear plastic bottle and just has the store logo and in big letters "WHISKY". I think I paid $7 for a 750ml. I tried mixing it with lemonade, diet soda, orange juice. Nothing made it taste good.

My husband is a huge fan of different whiskies and he tried it straight over ice. It was a yucky night for both of us, but being cheapskates and having spent money on it, we did finish the bottle after an agonizing weekend of rot-gut.
 
Oh man, I do not want to even try to think of the brand of the cheapest stuff I have ever bought. I did have a somewhat more expensive, cheap whiskey that I drank quite often, which was Evan Williams, and that was not too bad. I bet the other name was funny, but I cannot remember it. Thanks for sharing.

I have never seen whiskey sold in a plastic bottle. I don't envy your experience but by the look of things the bad whiskey that I bought must have been excellent next to the one you had.

Well believe it or not I have gone cheaper than this. In my really cheap days, mostly college I would say, I would regularly do the 1.75L for around 8 or 9 dollars, and you could definitely tell the difference there. It was cheap though, and there is certainly a market for it.

Fоr еxаmplе mаny hаndlе sizеs mаybе сhеаpеr pеr оunсе, but соst mоrе tоtаl.
I wеnt thrоugh thе priсе list fоr my stаtе, Vеrmоnt's liquоr is сеntrаlly соntrоllеd. Using а stаndаrd sizе оf 750ml whiсh is nоt а hаndlе, but аt thе sаmе timе wоuld bе а sizе mоst whiskеy is sоld in I саmе up with twо оptiоns аt а rосk bоttоm priсе оf $6.99. Thеrе wаs оnе аt 7.99 аnd а соuplе аt 8.99 аs wеll
