Goose Island's Sophie

My husband and I have been having a lot of fun learning about craft beer (and taste testing, of course). ;)

Something really different that we enjoyed is Sophie by Goose Island, which is a Belgian farmhouse ale that is aged in wine barrels. It's available in a 750 ml bottle or a four pack of regular bottles - if you can find them. If you ever get a chance to try it, don't miss out.

The 750 ml bottles we got had a bit of age on them, which dramatically changed the flavor, but in a good way.

It's a unique experience. We decided to have it instead of champagne this New Year's Eve. It's that good.

Thank you for sharing this @thisnthat, I had the Goose Island Vintage Ale "Lolita" and it was phenomenal, it comes bottled the same way, it's fermented with wild yeast and aged on raspberries in wine barrels. I'm definitely going to try Sophie next time.:)

I have tried a couple of their beers and I have to say that I was impressed. In terms of the less known brands, I would say this is better than a lot of the other options, but then again I am not the biggest beer drinker out there.

I'm glad you found it interesting. I hope you get a chance to try it. It's quite remarkable.

I haven't sampled many of their other varieties. I will keep my eyes open for the one you mentioned. It sounds interesting. A hint of raspberry sounds nice.

Is it on the sweet side, or tart, or is it extra subtle?

I can't wait to tell my husband about it. I think he will like it too.

I will have to look around for that brand. The name seems familiar. One beer I really enjoyed recently was a Banana Bread beer that was brewed in the UK. It isn't cheap, but I would buy it again!

Yes you will definitely have to try it. It's more on the subtle side. Not too sweet. These varieties are a Limited Release, so just keep checking up on them. :)

Most of the good ones are not cheap. We just like to try different ones on occasional or sip a special one for a treat. I could never afford to drink them like many people drink beer, one after another.

My husband said he's heard of it. He'd like to try it too. We can't find it around here currently. I'll definitely keep on the look out for it.
