Yes it is a very popular opinion on this forum and for a good reason.I think what I have learned from this forum is to drink Irish whiskey. It seems to be more well thought of then American whisky. It should be interesting to try it.
Thank you for sharing, valuable and useful information.I'm no expert, but here is a website that can answer all your questions: www.greatdrams.com/whisky-beginners/
Well your best bet is to go a bar or pub and ask the bartender for recommendations.
You could try the cheaper, but still very good whiskeys like Jameson and Bushmills(both are irish whiskeys)-and they say Jameson is usually the first Irish Whiskey that they try and is mildly sweet and has some floral smells as well. Bushmills taste of grain and honey and is a bit smoother than Jameson overall.
You always hear that Irish whiskey is the smoothest of whiskies because it's triple distilled and Scotch is double distilled, but maybe they have two reasons ? Scotch is made with smokey peat and Irish whiskey is unpeated. So you are less likely to have a hangover from Irish Whiskey for this reason,as well as its triple distilled.I think what I have learned from this forum is to drink Irish whiskey. It seems to be more well thought of then American whisky. It should be interesting to try it.
