Jack Daniels; The Most Representative Bourbon?

Well, when it comes to whisky, I was educated in tasting most of the brands produced in Scotland, but whenever someone cited to make a choice for bourbon, there was always one brand brought to mind; Jack Daniels.

Certainly this is the most popular bourbon around the world, but is this the unique?

Obvious not, so please name some of your favorite bourbons, and let me know what are your thoughts about Jack Daniels, and why is this the connoisseur's first choice.
 
I think Jack Daniels is what most young people think of when they hear Whisky. It is a great introduction to Whisky and a lot of friends like Jack and Coke. It's a good classic drink.
 
Yes, it is probably the most well known whiskey. I grew up about 100 miles from the Canadian border, and most people drank Seagrams where I was from. I think the region of the country where you live influences the kind of whiskey that the locals drink.
 
My first introduction to drinking was with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Now, I sample other types of Whisky and other alcohol, but I usually find myself grabbing a bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey just for old times sake.
 
I have had jack Daniels and it is a fine whiskey but I am not sure that I like it more than any other. It is good and something that most people who drink whiskey drink one time or another.

Ah! I had forgotten about Seagram's. After your mention, old-time TV commercials came to mind, it was touted as a good whiskey to try when in doubt about choosing Jack Daniels or this one.

However on those years the Scotch Passport was heavily advertised and I went for this, forgetting about Seagram's eventually, and haven't seen it at stores since, as opposed to the variety of Jack Daniels whiskeys that we can find today.
 
Jack Daniels has a great reputation and is well known. There are not too many whiskey drinkers who have not drank Jack Daniels. I use to drink Seagram too back in the day.

I've actually never had Seagram before even though I heard a few things about it. How does it compare with Jack Daniels and is it reasonably priced?
 
Jack Daniels is a pretty good starter whisky, but once you get to drink more types of whisky you'll realize that there are better alternatives on the market.

As noted above, I had forgotten about Seagram's and don't remember to have heard anything of it or seen a bottle of this whiskey when shopping.

So that, I made earlier a quick research for it, and the reason we don't see it anywhere is that the distiller company broke up and while the French firm Pernod Ricard bought some of the beverages Seagram produced, the company was shut down in 2000.
 
Even in many parts of Europe Jack Daniels is "the whiskey". I never understood why, I guess they really got the job well done when it comes to marketing.

I don't mind drinking Jack but I've actually never bought a bottle and probably never will.
 
I am surprised Jack Daniels is the whiskey; I would thnk it would be some sort of scotch whiskey. Maybe a Glenlivet or somehting like that. I mean, I know there are special brands from Scotland that are released in small amounts. I just can't think of any of the names.
 
Personally I'm more familiar with Scotch whiskeys that with American, Canadian, Japanese or even Irish when talking about production in Britain.

So I can name many Scotch brands from the most prestigious such as Old Parr, Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, Black & White, Ballantine's and Buchanan's, to J&B, Passport, William Lawson, Teacher's and so on.
 
Yes, I guess Jack Daniels holds the title because it may be the best known whiskey in the world, not necessarily the best. In fact, I am sure it is not. It is a good whiskey though, and is smooth and enjoyable. A little Jack Daniels and coke is something that most people enjoy. It is a good brand with good taste.

Well, that's a complete bummer. I was looking for a new Whiskey to try but if it's not being produced anymore, then I guess I'll have to look elsewhere for a new brand to try out...
 
Oh well that would explain why I haven't seen it around anymore. It was a good middle of the road whiskey. It paired very well with gingerale and 7 up. Canandian Club and Canadian Mist are probaly similar.

Oh it is far from the best whiskey but it is a great started as somebody previously said. It is so well known so I guess that is why it is such a big seller. Once you have had a good whiskey though it is hard to go back to drinking Jack.
 
I think the fact that you can get Jack Daniels practically anywhere makes it really well known.
They also invested heavily in advertising while other bourbon brands didn't.

This is true but even then there might be some Scottish whiskey and if someone chooses Jack Daniels, it's because they want to try something different. It's better to try it out this way then to buy a bottle and find out that you don't like it. I personally like it.
