Whiskey Myths

:)We all know a myth, is a story handed down through history of a widely held false idea or belief. And with anything, myths are even present when talking about a good Whiskey.

I believe the number one myth is the statement "All whiskeys taste the same," not at all, hundreds of elements affect the taste of whiskey such as grain type and production. (2) "Whiskey ages in the bottle", unlike wine if there is an age on the bottle, this is the age the whiskey stays. (3) "Whiskey is only made of barley,"not at all, whiskey should contain 51% corn to be called a bourbon. :)

Myths have been around for along time throughout history, and these are just a few that coincide with whiskey. What are some of the other myths you have heard of? Do you think these listed above are myth or fact? o_O

I like the taste of Irish whiskey the most, and it seems so clean and tasty when you drink it. One thing for sure though, the Irish monks invented whiskey 700 years before the Scotch people started making theirs,so yeah, thank god for Irish monks!

Two myths I have heard about Irish and Scotch whiskey,is that the Irish distill it three times and the Scots only two times, but I have found that they have whiskies, that are distilled three times as well. Another myth is that Scotch whiskey is always smoky, but not always. I think its something in the Irish water myself though?
