I used to drink JD a bit years back. However, at the price point it sells for, there are other options, so it has been a while since I've bought a bottle. It isn't bad stuff, but there is just other options now.
The main reason you would get Jack Daniels is because of the instant name recognition. There might be better bourbons out there but everyone knows JD.
That certainly is true, particularly in the context of something like a party at home. The guests would know what they are getting.
Well, Jack and I used to have a close personal relationship, but that is no longer. He gets me into too much trouble! However, as a brand, Jack Daniel's sells more bottles than anything else here in the States, so I've been told. Their brand does a great job of advertising though. They do tons of print ads and sponsor a lot of bar events that give out branded gear with the JD logo on it. The iconic black label is extremely popular and easy to identify as well. Plus, Jack is reasonably priced and gives consumers a good signature Bourbon bite with every shot consumed.
I think it didn't get to be popular worldwide for nothing. I think JD as it is known has a smooth flavor and a lot going for it, to make people like and want it worldwide. This is just one of the brands that is probably recognized and popular world wide. I would feel comfortable serving this brand anywhere.
I remember the first time I tried JD even it was many years back it had a very strong impact on me. I had heard that it was really good but was surprised how good it was. It was completely different from anything that I had before. It had very different undertones to what you get from scotch. Whenever I think of bourbon the first brand that pops into my mind is JD.
At some point in time, Jack Daniels was new and exciting. It was unique in it's own way and turned a lot of heads. It gained it's popularity for a reason- but as time went on, there were so many other varieties available to the public. This has really set the tone for purchasing Jack. Personally, I would rather sip on something other than Jack Daniels. I don't mind it, but I would rather try something new. I've had Jack Daniels so many times that it's become old and worn out.
Maybe Jack should jazz up their brand a bit like Johhny Walker has. There seems to be a few variations of Johhny Walker around, and I think Jack could do something similar, if they want to stay relevant, and marketable. People like a change every once in a while.
Jack Daniels does have some variation but is focusing more on different flavors rather than on age. I think if they sold a 15 year old bottle of whiskey there would be a market for it.
Well, Jack Daniel's can't be the most popular bourbon for one simple reason: It's not bourbon, it's Tennessee whiskey. Being from Kentucky you get to know all about what's bourbon and what's not, and people here HATE IT when Jack gets referred to as bourbon. If it isn't made right here in Kentucky, it isn't bourbon. I feel like at this point Jim Beam still owns the "Most Famous Bourbon" title. Not trying to be snotty, but it is what it is. Jack Daniel's is NOT bourbon.
I guess that all depends on what you mean by representative. It is probably the most common and well known, and maybe one of the more preferred, but I am not really sure.
I guess the marketing of the product is the one to blame, that's why Jack Daniel's has become the popular brand that it is now. Their marketing is actually so successful that Jack Daniel's is quite overrated nowadays. I would say that it's popularity is not due to it's quality or taste but more to the marketing campaigns and advertisements.
I believe that although Jack Daniels is one of the best known whiskies in the world, it's not necessarily one of the best tasting whiskies in the world. Having said that, it's the first whisky that I had when I first started drinking.
I think a good Bourbon at any price is Evan Williams and they say its one of the best selling brands worldwide and I think its right behind Jim Beam as well. The black label variety that Evan Williams sells is known as "something that is cheap and dosen't taste half bad" and I have had it many times and its got a nice quality about it overall.
Another thing that came to my mind recently was that it is the go to bottle you see in the movies to suggest the character drinks a lot. It always seems to be the bottle of Jack that they go to.
Personally, I find that there are a fair number of cheaper whiskeys that I prefer over Jack Daniels. Four Roses, Jim Beam Black Label, and J&B all come to mind (two bourbons, and a scotch).
